Flame of the Forest

2026 – 78 x 7.5 in (198 x 19 cm)

Caterpillar cotton, plain weave structure

Lately, I’ve been drawn to the colors of Central Mexico’s flora. I wove this piece in honor of the Royal Poinciana (Delonix regia), also called the flamboyant tree, flame tree, or flame of the forest. Its symbolism, “farewell, missing, and passionate youth,” stayed with me at the loom, because it echoes something I’ve faced all year: accepting that I am an aging woman whose body no longer produces estrogen naturally.
